In the picturesque Devon Valley, close to Stellenbosch, Sugarbird Manor is set on a tranquil 21-hectare protea farm. With expansive views across vineyards and valleys, this beautiful farm is the perfect base to relax in total peace and quiet. Stylish guest rooms with elegant and contemporary touches include air-conditioning, ceiling fan, DSTV, WiFi, telephone, safe and tea tray. One room is wheelchair friendly. Delicious breakfasts, with lunches and dinners on request. A fully equipped conference venue caters for 40 delegates and this peaceful setting is ideal for weddings or functions for 50 guests. Three hiking trails starting at the farm, explore wine estates or enjoy golf at 12 nearby courses.

Situated on the working protea farm, Protea Heights, the guesthouse is the original homestead on the farm. The farm is run as a going concern, supplying cut flowers for the international market.
Redesigned by Stellenbosch based architects Dennis Moss Partnership, the guesthouse provides wheelchair access to most facilities and offers visitors a comfortable and luxurious setting in which to do business or relax.

Recreation : Sugarbird Manor is located on the once-popular vineyard hiking trail between Oude Libertas and Zevenwacht, across the Bottelary Hills. Other nearby attractions include Devon Valley Golf Course, JC le Roux Cellars and Oude Libertas Amphitheatre.
The Cape Sugarbird : The guesthouse is named after the Cape sugarbird, endemic to South Africa s unique fynbos vegetation. These birds feed extensively off the nectar produced by proteas and assist in their pollination.

Our beautiful guesthouse is located at Protea Heights, a 21.6-hectare working protea farm in the picturesque Devon Valley, on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.

With expansive views across vineyards and valley to the Simonsberg, Stellenbosch and the Helderberg Mountains, Somerset West and False Bay, Sugarbird Manor is the perfect base to relax in total peace and quiet.

Take a journey along the three hiking trails starting at our doorstep, explore the many surrounding wine farms or tee-off at any of the 12 nearby golf courses. Sugarbird Manor is only short drive away from the centre of Stellenbosch and is surrounded by our beautiful protea farm, rolling vineyards and dramatic mountain ranges.

Stellenbosch is a place of great beauty and historical interest. The second-oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town, it is also one of the best preserved, with a mix of architectural styles, including Cape Dutch, Georgian, Regency and Victorian. Home to the University of Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's oldest and most renowned universities, Stellenbosch is the Cape Winelands' most interesting and lively town with numerous superb restaurants, bars, shops and galleries.

Breath-taking scenery, vineyards and wineries, golf courses, unspoilt hikes, fantastic restaurants and, of course, fine wines await you. Franschhoek and Paarl are only 30 minutes away and Cape Town is just 40 minutes (and we're less than half an hour from Cape Town International Airport!).

With mild temperatures throughout the year, Stellenbosch is a wonderful year-round destination and a great place to base your winelands exploration from.

The veranda doors open to spectacular views over the Stellenbosch, Franschhoek & Helderberg mountain ranges. The boardroom, verandas and courtyard provide a free flow and total privacy and tranquility. The facilities are for exclusive use of our delegates.

The boardroom accommodates 20 delegates (boardroom-style & lounge-style) or 40 delegates (cinema-style).

The conference equipment includes flipcharts & screens. Notebooks and pens are supplied. Specific conference equipment can be hired at an extra cost.

Directions

From the airport or Cape Town Take the N2 highway in the direction of Somerset-West. Turn left at the Baden Powell Rd off-ramp, direction Stellenbosch. Follow the road past Spier up to the T-junction and turn right. Take the second road to the left - Devon Valley Road. Drive for 5km and turn right at the Protea Heights entrance. Follow the signposts for Sugarbird Manor. From the N1 Take the Stellenbosch off-ramp. Enter Stellenbosch (Bird Street). Turn right at the R44 traffic light intersection (Eikestad Motors). Pass the railway station, cross the railway bridge and pass Distell. After the Distell traffic lights, turn right into the Devonvalley Road. Drive for 5km and turn right at the Protea Heights entrance. Follow the signposts for Sugarbird Manor.
