The serenity of The Habit, possibly due to all the prayers over a 60 year period, is added to by the high pressed ceilings, wooden floors and beds dressed in crisp white linen. Large verandahs and louvered shutters give a cooling effect in the long summer days. A cozy lounge in winter with a fireplace is opened up in summer to let the cool shades of the garden in. An eye catching feature outdoors is a large fresh water swimming- pool set in the centre of an attractive country garden, abounding with the twitter of birds. Owners Judy and Bridget are your friendly hosts and in-house tourist guides, ably assisted by four loyal staff members, Portia, Jennet , Nosipho and Andre who helps in the garden. There is a great deal to see and do in the area and they will only be too happy to direct you. For those people who wish to do their own thing or like travelling with their animals, the two self catering garden cottages, Oak and Jacaranda, are ideal. Each has their own secure private garden if you do decide to bring “Boomer” on holiday! There are two resident dogs, “Chilli and Pepper”, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, who have learnt to open their home to other dogs, especially the guide dogs that come to stay. The guest house is centrally situated in the “old town” which has more gabled buildings than any other town in South Africa, and every gable is different. It is within easy walking distance to restaurants, most of the schools and other places of interest. In fact nothing is very much more than 5 to 10 minutes away.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA Worcester is the largest town in the Breede Valley Municipality, home to approximately 100 000 people, including those people living on the surrounding farms. It is an old town established in 1820 and named after Lord Charles Somerset’s nephew, the Marquis de Worcester. In 1823 there were only 10 houses in Worcester. Worcester is also the largest wine growing region in South Africa, both in number of vines and volume of wine produced, accounting for 20% of the total production. There is plenty to see and do in the area and being so centrally situated with the surrounding towns and other places of interest an hour or less drive from Worcester it is an ideal base from which to explore the region.
