Garden

The sculptures of the renowned South African landscape artist Strijdom van der Merwe are prominent features in the formal garden. They unite the old and new growth patterns of mushrooms. The colours and textures of mushrooms are reflected in a subtle way in the choice and layout of a wide variety of plants in seasonal displays. The swimming pool terrace and surrounding areas invite guests to discover the elegant and spectacular garden design of Andres de Wet. A private open-air massage area forms the focus point of the Zen area. The huge palm trees, rose garden, trees and shrubs are a combination of plants that makes an authentic South African impression. The front veranda with its day couches and ceiling fans gives a feeling of a bygone colonial era. The original Digteby wall panel with colourful bird species and red-white Amanita mushrooms is a link to the past. Gin, estate wines and Van Ryn brandies complement the pleasure of the wide view of the garden landscape – especially at sunset.

Mycotourism

Guests further have the opportunity to see how a wide variety of exotic edible mushrooms are cultivated in cellars close to the swimming pool area. An information session of two hours can be booked, during which guests can learn how to recognise the more than sixty commercially cultivated mushroom species. Information on the mushrooms growing in the nearby Jonkershoek Mountains is also provided. It offers an adventurous journey through the exclusive world of gourmet, exotic, speciality and medicinal mushrooms.
